'From Grief to Hope' - Join us TONIGHT (21st April) at 8:30pm
Today is Yom Ha Shoah we are remembering six million lost lives, a whole murdered generation Just over ten years ago, Yom Ha Shoah was transformed for me when I attended Borehamwood Shul for a new ceremony devised by the then Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks. It was his attempt to create a ‘service’ for Yom Ha Shoah that used the power of music as well as images and words to convey a powerful spiritual message. It was produced by David Coleman of the BBC and was both moving and inspirational.
Over the next few years it was taken to other shuls across the UK.
Eventually Rabbi Sacks asked for shuls to take some of the materials and create their own presentations. I was inspired along with Chazan Jonny Turgel to take this idea to Stanmore and we created our own presentation based on Rabbi Sacks’s ideas.
Over the last four years, as Mizrachi UK, we have taken this performance to communities.
However, then Corona came and we had to postpone our performance in Chigwell this year.
Yet we had an idea, to transform the live ceremony into a film to be broadcast on Yom Ha Shoah along with Mizrachi Olami across the Jewish world and to hopefully thousands of homes here in the UK.
So after weeks of works, we are honoured to present to the community a 45-minute presentation to be screened for the first time this year - ‘From Grief to Hope’
It is also part of the Yom Ha Shoah UK ‘Day of Education’ and Jroots ‘Day of Testimony’
It features the music of Jonny Turgel accompanied by Asaf Flumendorf and provides an inspiring and fitting tribute to the six million.
Please join us for what we hope will be a powerful reminder to never forget the dark years of 1939 – 1945 but to be inspired by the hope and the belief of the Jewish people and the miracle of 1948.
