Our Shul is participating in Mizrachi UK's global initiative to unite the Jewish world and honour the 1200 souls lost on October 7th, 2023, and the hundreds more since.
This October marks the first Simchat Torah since the tragic events.
While traditionally a day of joy and celebration, this Simchat Torah will also serve as the first yahrzeit for the victims and a time to honour the hostages and soldiers who have passed.
Shuls worldwide will open their Torah Arks on Simchat Torah night, taking out several Torah scrolls.
One will be adorned with a special Torah cover, created for 1600 synagogues, dedicated in memory of the 1200 souls and the many who have died, Al Kiddush Hashem.
Each cover features the Israeli flag and the verse from Kohelet, “There is a time to mourn, and a time to dance,” with the back embroidered with the name of one of the fallen.
Our Shul is honoured to participate in this historic project.
