Complete and return the form to the Shule Office or to Rabbi Eisenberg by Tuesday 12th April. Please note: This is only for people who will be home on Pesach. If you are going away please be in touch separately.
Eiruv Tavshilin
In general, one is not allowed to prepare food from one day Yom Tov to the next.
In a regular year this doesn't present a problem because one is allowed to cook on Yom Tov. However, in a year where one of the days is Shabbos, this is an issue. In order to be allowed to cook for Shabbos on Friday, we make an Eiruv Tavshilin.
The process of making an Eiruv Tavshilin is as follows.
You need one baked item (usually a matzah) and one cooked item.
You take the two items on the day before Yom Tov (in our case, Thursday) and make the following blessing on them-
ברוך אתה ה א-לוקינו מלך העולם אשר קדשנו במצוותיו וצונו על מצות עירוב.
Then you declare, "With this Eiruv we will be allowed to bake, cook, insulate, light a flame and to do all things necessary from Yom Tov for Shabbos."
The Eiruv cannot be eaten before Shabbos, but should be eaten on Shabbos at one point.
