The 14th Israel Apartheid Week of actions will take place around the world between 19 February and 17 April 2018. The organisers have turned a ‘week’ of actions into a 58-day event!
This is part of a well-established campaign designed to delegitimise and demonise Israel.
The language is provocatively chosen to draw a comparison between Apartheid South Africa and Israel.
You don’t need us to explain that those comparisons are mendacious and in direct contradiction to the actuality of life in Israel, a free society where equality is guaranteed for all.
Last year the IBA partner campaign exposed the truth and we contacted education ministers throughout the UK calling on them to ensure that the public-sector equality duty in universities was met, we educated MPs and for the first time we challenged Universities UK to step up to the plate and recognise that they have a duty of care to stop these events taking place.
We did have successes, but we must match the persistence of our opponents to have these events outlawed.
THIS IS THE IBA & PARTNER CAMPAIGN AGAINST ISRAEL APARTHEID WEEK
In December 2016 on behalf of the British Government the Prime Minister adopted the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism.
The IHRA states that denying the Jewish people their right to self-determination, e.g. by claiming that the existence of a State of Israel is a racist endeavour, is anti-Semitic
It therefore follows that attempting to compare Israel to the racist state of South Africa is antisemitic.
We call on the Prime Minister to condemn these events and highlight the possibility of making them a breach of the law in line with the December 2016 announcement.
We copy the correspondence to the Chief Executive of Universities UK, highlighting once again their members responsibility to create safe campuses.
We also copy MPs into the correspondence to keep them in
We NEED YOUR SUPPORT to put pressure on the government to deliver what they promised. Announcing that you support the IHRA definition is worthless if it’s not backed by action.
We need to let Universities UK and its member network know that we’ll be monitoring every campus that holds an event
With YOUR SUPPORT we will keep the anti-IAW in political view.
We would also also like to suggest a new angle; that we ask you to participate in the email campaign and simultaneously add your name to a petition that will be submitted to the Prime Minister after the IAW events close.
We appreciate that this is a lot to digest but if you are willing to participate in this campaign you can just click the following link:
